Week 13: Shrimp (Really?)

I am disappointed in Week 13. Shrimp are not bigger than limes. I'm sorry, a "medium shrimp" this baby is supposedly the size of, is not bigger than a lime.

partysugar.onsugar.com

I guess maybe my skewed perception of shrimp sizes comes from living in land-locked Nebraska. If I lived where Bubba was from, maybe I would think shrimp looked more like this...

http://www.google.com/images.com

"Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it." -Bubba

As for my little "medium shrimp," baby officially can be id'ed. There are now fingerprints, which hopefully are never needed later in life. Deputy Core wouldn't like that. The body is catching up with head which makes me laugh and think of this, "Look at that boy's heed. I'm not kidding, it looks like an orange on a toothpick." "He'll be crying himself to sleep tonight on his huge pillow." "Heed! Pants! Now!" If you know what I am referencing, you get to hold the baby.

If Shrimp is a girl, she has 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Wow! My mom immediately said she thought it was a girl which is what I had been saying too. My friend Allison said the same thing right away. Matt's mom says boy though and although I can't remember my dream from last night, I remember that it had to do with baby being a boy and me being pissed someone told me before he was born. I guess we all have the 50/50 shot and I'm sure it will flip-flop all over the next few months. That's about it for developmental excitement. As for my personal progress, I am in the last week of the first trimester so good riddance to that. Matt's highlight is that I may start to feel a "distinct libido lift." I won't elaborate there. As for my diet, eggs, lean meats and nuts for protein are recommended. That's good because I've been eating hard-boiled eggs with my oatmeal for breakfast (the consequence is a stinky office) and Matt and I have polished off a $15 bag of pistachios since Sunday (thanks wedding gift cards and the impulse section at Bed Bath & Beyond).

My new blog followers are lucky this week since this is my 3rd blog entry. It is probably abnormal so don't get used to it. The baby buzz is just ridiculous this week due to all you people finding out. The initial reactions are pretty entertaining (minus the FB reminders in my gmail every time someone posts on my wall or comments on the 8,492 posts on my wall). My brothers have already pointed out that the due date, October 5th falls on a Wednesday which is acceptable. However, that Saturday, October 8th (Matt's Birthday) would not be an acceptable day to give birth due to the Husker schedule. Buck I. Core will not have uncles visiting if he arrives that day. They did offer up the 2 weeks prior to due date since those are away games. Papa Dale would be proud of his grandsons' dedication to the team.

To wrap this week up, it was pointed out to me that Krebs' never are pregnant alone. Starting with my Grandma and Grandpa, then their 8 kids and all of their offspring, Shrimp will be #104 of the Krebs clan. The babies seem to come in bursts with as many as 5 being born in the same year. Currently, Shrimp is a loner. Emily, you chose to be a Krebs, don't let this family down! (No pressure!)

Name's Sake

If you have been wondering about the name of the blog, try thinking of your own blog name. It's hard. I went with this because it is the name of one of the greatest songs in the universe.

Everybody's Gonna Love Today

Check it out. Mika just makes you happy. This CD just makes you happy.

sleevage.com

So underrated. A Life in Cartoon Motion is bound to be a good time. And check out Mika himself...

daveportivo.blogspot.com

For the record, these pants are pretty baggy for Mr. Mika. He looks like a weirdo that would definitely entertain me. I bet he has serious dance moves (research it, little brother). This song/album came into my world the summer I worked at Hummel Day Camp and met Matt. It followed us through our long-distance blooming relationship and provided many good times in the SAE house and on Hunt Street in Ames (in fact I have a memory of Scott and Matt in robes toasting scotch with Mika blaring, courtesy of DJ Rascal). This song has set the mood for so many fun nights and memories and it was even the entrance for our wedding party into our reception. The music just makes you happy (with the exception of track 12 maybe).

All in all, its a good song, a good life mantra, and a good blog name. I will leave you with another dose of Mika happiness...

Big Girl (You Are Beautiful)

(Take this girl and multiply her by 4... that will be me October 5th!)

P.S.
Patrick asked me if the baby's room will be called the "Butterfly Lounge." The lyrics in Big Girl (You Are Beautiful) say, "Get Yourself to the Butterfly Lounge." The baby's room is currently pink with butterfly decals on the walls.... a Butterfly Lounge. Mika has obviously been speaking to me for a long time. It's a sign that this was all meant to be!

Revealing

March 28th FINALLY came!!! We went to the doctor and got to see that Kiwi really is in there. I was almost trying not to get too excited, like it was too good to be true but now that we have seen baby and heard its heartbeat, I am excited all over again!

Doctor: First things first, they asked me if a male med student shadowing my doctor could observe. I said yes and the nurse said "Wow, thanks! He hasn't had much luck today with patients letting him watch. No Pressure!" Hmmm, should I have thought a little more about my answer? Luckily the student "Pierre," a tall, skinny Asian man, seemed nice enough. Matt was loving that the name "Pierre" and the physical person "Pierre" were matched. His presence was nothing special except just one more person in the room to watch me cry when I saw the ultrasound screen.

REVEAL: Kiwi's Photo Shoot

"Wow! Your baby is REALLY cooperating! Babies are never this easy! This probably means a naughty teenager." -Dr. Gray

This is my favorite picture. Perfect little profile! The other highlight of my office visit was that I only gained 2 lbs since my last appointment almost a month ago! Considering the amount of carbs and candy I have consumed, I was very pleased with that~ even though my waist on my pants feels more like 10!

Since we got the official official proof, we decided it was go time to tell. Lately I have been more anxious for people to know because I have been avoiding social settings (the drinking thing was making my friends suspicious) and I have felt like a bad friend! I went back to work and sent Matt to Walgreens to make copies of the pictures for the grandparents.

REVEAL: Rock & Skip

We invited my parents to dinner to thank them for all of their help moving the past few weeks~ and for the 3 meals my mom cooked and brought us last week (yes 3! Maybe moving 0.6 miles away was a better idea than we realized!). My mom later said she was a little suspicious but it was a legit reason so she went with it. We tried to think of a quiet restaurant and decided on China Road. We got a table in the corner, ordered our food and then presented my parents with a foofed little present~ just something small to "thank" them for their help. My mom started unwrapping and the cute little face hit her. She started crying and was sort of stunned, staring at the pictures in awe. She said "I always wondered how I would react to this news and I don't really know what to say!" She later told me my Dad was watching my reaction to her reaction~ all (both?) of us in tears.

Needless to say, they were VERY excited. We talked about the brother's Krebs and their constant pestering the past few weeks. She said Charlie claimed he saw "the twinkle in Matt's eye" and knew. He claims he knows the twinkle because he saw it in Emily's brother Rick's eye before he made a baby announcement a while back. Charlie~ give yourself the twinkle buddy (love, Katy, Emily, Patrick, Rocky, Skip, Karen, little Katy.... the list goes on). Dinner ended with my mom's fortune cookie saying "A new person will come into your life and you will be great friends." That obviously made her day.

REVEAL: To the Core

After dinner, we headed to the Core's house. We told them we were bringing a truckload of Merl's tools which had been in our garage (which was true). On the way, Matt called his sister Katharine who was just leaving Merl & Nancy's. He convinced her to go back and wait for us and thankfully, she complied. We then presented Nancy with the same foofed "spring treat" and she immediately said, "I know what this is." She looked at us and said, its a baby. "I hope I didn't foof a baby, I don't think that fits in an envelope!" How does everyone know?!?  She got it opened and boom, tears and hugs. Merl thought the pictures were really neat, Katharine was crying (well, all the girls were) and that was that. The due date is Nancy's birthday so that was a fun added surprise for her.

REVEAL: The Losers (of the bet)

From the Core's we swung by the gas station so I could get every baby-themed treat they had. Can you believe the one missing candy bar was a Baby Ruth?? Dumb. Anyway, I ended up with these sucker thinks in the shape of baby bottles, Sour Patch KIDS, and CRAZY CORE skittles. We then went unannounced to Charlie and Emily's house. At this point it was about 9:30. Their doorbell didn't work so we started pounding on the door. No answer. Matt suggested I check if I still had a key so I started trying all my keys in the deadbolt. If the pounding on the door didn't scare them, this sure would. Jackpot, door opens. Bummer, they are not home. Really guys?!? Where could they possibly be? I started texting Emily about tv shows to try to get a read but she wasn't biting. Finally, Matt called Charlie and found out they were on their way home from the Creighton game. We waited about 10 more minutes until they got home. They had to be suspicious at that point. A) we don't drop by B) Matt hasn't called Charlie "since '82." We handed them the "treats" we bought them and at first, Emily was excited for treats but then they started to catch on. They looked at us and we were both smiling and they knew~ they were losers. We had won! Charlie took credit for being right all along.

From there, we skyped Patrick to tell him. (BTW it was my first skype~ thats fun!) He is very pumped to be an uncle and, "Every outfit that I purchase for Baby Rod will come with a matching outfit for Uncle Patrick." Please let that be true. Name suggestions from Charlie and Patrick so far are, Herman, Rod, Joan, and Pia. Thanks boys. With suggestions like those, you might just get to name this baby yourselves! The "Figgy" name is catching on and baby might be stuck with it longer than the designated fig week. (Oh, by the way, my parents were pretty amused that we ate fig newtons last week).

The day wrapped up with a few more reveals to friends and family and the word is starting to spread. My Mom and brothers are pretty conspicuous with their Facebook posts so I think people are catching on. That is fine by Matt and I because it is sort of exhausting telling everyone - so spread the word! We are sooo excited for baby and so excited to be able to talk about it!

Week 12: Blimey!

Matt prefers kiwis this week but he didn't write the book.

limehouseproduce.net

Limes are refreshing. Baby has reflexes, curling toes, and sucking motions in the mouth. The eyes are in the correct spot and so are the ears. KiwiLime looks like a definable human. Urine is being excreted and Matt is curious about poop. Sorry internet world for the TMI but... NEWSFLASH... its true, girls fart. I may have done just that this week and Matt claimed it smelled like baby poop. No Matt, I am not farting out KiwiLime's junk. Interesting thought though! Sorry for the yuck~ at least limes are fresh and clean!

We have been researching baby rooms and its fun but I'm afraid of commitment. Knowing the gender would make it easier but we like the idea of keeping it a secret. Gender neutral baby rooms.... go!

Matt likes the idea of gray. I think I do, I just don't want it to be gloomy. I love these fabrics but its a little girly.
http://designdazzle.blogspot.com/

Splash of color on gray... love the idea of fabrics since there are so many cute ones!

http://designdazzle.blogspot.com/
http://designdazzle.blogspot.com/

I also love this rug mixing fabrics and patterns.

http://designdazzle.blogspot.com

I WILL be making this mobile.

http://designdazzle.blogspot.com/

I love these colors for a boy. Etsy is full of cute owl stuff. Gray and owls... baby on trend. Now that Daddy has Buddy Holly specs, we have to get the baby up to speed.

www.etsy.com

I'm digging this Robin's Egg Blue color but there is a VERY fine line between the color I like and an obvious, obnoxious, powdery blue baby color.

http://designdazzle.blogspot.com/

More design on the blue.

http://designdazzle.blogspot.com/

I love this for a little girl.

http://designdazzle.blogspot.com/

Last but not least, a lime one for KiwiLime. Too linear for me but I like the colors.

http://jennyology.com

As you can see this is going to be a tough decision for us. Basically, we need to pick a plan and go with it. Collecting cute stuff gradually seems to be a better idea then trying to do it all at once (or last minute when I'm not as mobile!).

Week 11: Bring Me Some Figgy Pudding

Figgy Newt is our little guy this week, says Matt.
Side Note #1: Courtney introduced me to dried figs in our Swanson dorm, delish!
Side Note #2: Fig Newtons sound good. I feel guilty, like I'm eating a baby. Gross.

hedonia.seantimberlake.com

We both agree that "Figgy" is actually a cute name, not Newton though. Figgy now is about 1 1/2 inches, has hands forming fists, "teeth buds" and hardening bones. The kicking and stretching moves look effortless "much like water ballet." Super! Figgy is destined to follow Uncle Patrick's dancing career, just what Charlie was hoping to hear! Hopefully that includes musical talents for karaoke too.

I'm starting to feel some guilt about not sharing this news yet with anyone however, in our minds, it is even better for everyone because they won't have to wait as long for the baby to come. They will find out the news and BOOM! I'll get huge and baby will be here! The first 3 months are lame anyway. I feel like crap and have nothing to show for it. You should all thank me for letting you skip that crap and like I've said before, Matt deserves a vacation (probably from me) for dealing with it without too much complaining. Gus and Walter are his only confidants!

In other news, Figgy got him/herself some new digs this weekend! We moved and maybe to the suspicions of the helpful friends and family moving crew, one room has been left completely empty. It is currently pepto-bismol pink with butterfly decals and even though I'm still having girl premonitions, it will not be staying that way. It has been pointed out that from that particular bedroom window, you can see the roof of my parents house (0.6 miles away says Rocky). Enjoy the view Figgy!

Week 10: Sweet on the outside

Just over an inch long, baby is barely the size of a kumquat.

meyerlemontree.com

"If Matt and Katy were each a fruit, I think Matt would be a banana and Katy would be a kumquat. I'm not going to give a reason why. I'll let you do the math on this one." Pat Tefft - Wedding Program

I'm not too familiar with kumquats so I tried to do the math. I found out that the rind is sweet and the center is sour and salty. In recent years, kumquats have gained popularity as garnishes in cocktails. When selecting kumquats, look for plump, firm, brightly colored fruit. Hmmm Pat....I don't know if I like where this is going!

Back to the kumquat in the oven, Matt is disappointed there are no fun nicknames for Week 10. Grape Ape was pretty fun for him. Kumquat has completed the most critical portion of development. That's good news I guess! I still am cautiously excited until our next appointment when we see a real doctor and hear a real heartbeat. 2 weeks from today! This week, fingernails are developing and so is peach fuzz hair. Limbs can bend and little kumquat is kicking up a storm. I can't wait until that is something that I can feel!

I think my food issues have mostly subsided and I am sooooo relieved. That was rough. Being that it is Lent, I find myself craving little fishies but I am keeping myself mercury-free. It was sad watching Matt eat sushi the other day though :( I have been avoiding social settings where drinks are involved because people are getting suspicious and we are still not quite ready to tell. My brothers continue their comments and a few others have noticed that I haven't had a drink the past few times we've been together. I said I was on a diet~ hahaha! The truth will come out soon folks!

The best news in the 10 week report was that my pants may be starting to feel tight. I now have an excuse to get a little chub! My pants are NOT tight yet so hopefully that is a good sign, but its nice to get the official "okay" for it all to begin.

Week 9: Wine! (Whine?)

I'm starting to be creeped out that I crave the food analogy of this baby. This week is grapes.

worldcommunitycookbook.org

Much more appetizing than kidney beans I guess. Maybe its not so much the food item itself, just the fact that I am ALWAYS hungry so almost anything sounds good! I'm definitely feeling better in terms of the food related sickness but I am still exhausted. The info I highlighted in this week's progress description was MOOD SWINGS. Poor Matt has been a trooper. Between the stress of the houses, the winter funk, and everything else going on (plus Matt being the only one I can complain vent to) I have not been the nicest person. I know it is no excuse but I can't help it! The tiniest things just really piss me off! I know I'm being crazy as soon as I start to get mad and I'm trying to be nice but Matt deserves a nice reward for putting up with me. I should think of something....
