Week 25: Baby Daddy

This week's descriptions were lame. The baby weighs a pound and a half - the weight of a rutabaga.

I prefer "size of" comparisons; not length and not weight. Looking at a rutabaga seems like a regression since they are the size of giant fists. To help keep us all entertained, I googled things that weigh 1.5 pounds. 1 dozen glazed Krispy Kreme donuts was the most frequent answer.

These aren't glazed but I'm going to guess the sprinkles and cream filling add some weight and let's get serious, our kid is probably a little chunkier than the average. I can squeeze a donut or two into my menu this week. Probably not a rutabaga. Other one and a half pounders include an Apple ipad and 1.5 guinea pigs. Speaking of donuts, fat seems to be the only progress this week. The baby is filling out so instead of looking wrinkled and transparent, its looking more chubby baby-ish. Baby is also growing more hair and the color and texture is visible (if you were inside my womb).

In other news, it is time to announce Baby Core's first friend, OFFICIALLY. I had many curious readers ask or give speculation on who the mystery pregnant friends were and although Emily was the most common guess (soon people, hopefully soon!), the baby is coming from....  The Peterson's! Wes and Ashley are having a baby right around the new year and are 12 weeks along. Ashley and I have been venting about pregnancy issues for a few weeks now and its a big relief to have it out in the open!

For those of you who don't know, Wes is one of Matt's best friends. They were frat brothers together at Iowa State and they are disgustingly obsessed with each other. They are both weirdos, they both like to eat, they both like to over-analyze stupid situations (which works out for Ashley and I because they can talk to each other instead of us), they are both SUPER stubborn which makes their bickering relentless, they both go WAY out of their way to prove a point, they have the same sense of humor, and they are both easily entertained by the same things. Wes is an Omaha Police Officer and cop stuff is just one more thing for them to talk about. A couple of weeks ago, Matt and Wes went shooting one afternoon and while I was at work. When I got home, Matt was wearing camo pants and a cut-off T-shirt. Obviously, that's appropriate shooting attire. Only Wes would go in public with Matt in that get-up. Friends of theirs joke that if one of them does something, the other one has to do it too for example, buying a bicycle, buying a gun (they bought 1 together once to share), becoming cops, and now... having babies. I probably agree with them doing some things because of the other, but having a baby is not something people do to keep up with the Jones'. Our babies won't be in constant (friendly) competition like their dads are, they will be BFF's! Baby Core will be a little bigger, disgusted by dog hair, and living in the 'burbs and Baby Peterson will be recycling, loving critters, and decked out in Disney but they will get along perfectly.

Maybe you can imagine what the mini-me's will be like...

Apparently, our baby will have eyeballs that constantly look shocked and the Peterson baby will have a knack for gazing, kissing, and being held. I can't wait to find out! I would love to be a fly on the wall some day about a year from now when Ashley and I are out shopping and the boys have the babies. They will both be great dads and when they are together, their maturity level regresses to that of 5-year-olds so they will be loads of fun surrounded in all things baby. I can't wait to see them morph from big kids into dads! They WILL be these guys... Watch this video for a glimpse into Matt & Wes's futures.

Afterthought: This is a pretty appropriate post considering Sunday was Father's Day and I'm talking about Daddys-to-be. Although I appreciated being acknowledged on Mother's Day, I think its a little silly to consider this Matt's first Father's Day. With that line of thought, it was Baby's first Father's Day too. Does that mean this was Tuesday was Baby's FIRST first day of summer? Will Baby experience it's first 4th of July in a week and a half? Nope. Not in my book. Yes, Baby is a person but until Baby is out in the world, the firsts aren't happening at the Core's house (and no, this isn't an excuse because I forgot to get Matt a card!).

  1. Hahaha!! When you put it like that, Wes and Core as dad's doesn't really scare me as much as it did before. Thanks!
