Revealing

March 28th FINALLY came!!! We went to the doctor and got to see that Kiwi really is in there. I was almost trying not to get too excited, like it was too good to be true but now that we have seen baby and heard its heartbeat, I am excited all over again!

Doctor: First things first, they asked me if a male med student shadowing my doctor could observe. I said yes and the nurse said "Wow, thanks! He hasn't had much luck today with patients letting him watch. No Pressure!" Hmmm, should I have thought a little more about my answer? Luckily the student "Pierre," a tall, skinny Asian man, seemed nice enough. Matt was loving that the name "Pierre" and the physical person "Pierre" were matched. His presence was nothing special except just one more person in the room to watch me cry when I saw the ultrasound screen.

REVEAL: Kiwi's Photo Shoot

"Wow! Your baby is REALLY cooperating! Babies are never this easy! This probably means a naughty teenager." -Dr. Gray

This is my favorite picture. Perfect little profile! The other highlight of my office visit was that I only gained 2 lbs since my last appointment almost a month ago! Considering the amount of carbs and candy I have consumed, I was very pleased with that~ even though my waist on my pants feels more like 10!

Since we got the official official proof, we decided it was go time to tell. Lately I have been more anxious for people to know because I have been avoiding social settings (the drinking thing was making my friends suspicious) and I have felt like a bad friend! I went back to work and sent Matt to Walgreens to make copies of the pictures for the grandparents.

REVEAL: Rock & Skip

We invited my parents to dinner to thank them for all of their help moving the past few weeks~ and for the 3 meals my mom cooked and brought us last week (yes 3! Maybe moving 0.6 miles away was a better idea than we realized!). My mom later said she was a little suspicious but it was a legit reason so she went with it. We tried to think of a quiet restaurant and decided on China Road. We got a table in the corner, ordered our food and then presented my parents with a foofed little present~ just something small to "thank" them for their help. My mom started unwrapping and the cute little face hit her. She started crying and was sort of stunned, staring at the pictures in awe. She said "I always wondered how I would react to this news and I don't really know what to say!" She later told me my Dad was watching my reaction to her reaction~ all (both?) of us in tears.

Needless to say, they were VERY excited. We talked about the brother's Krebs and their constant pestering the past few weeks. She said Charlie claimed he saw "the twinkle in Matt's eye" and knew. He claims he knows the twinkle because he saw it in Emily's brother Rick's eye before he made a baby announcement a while back. Charlie~ give yourself the twinkle buddy (love, Katy, Emily, Patrick, Rocky, Skip, Karen, little Katy.... the list goes on). Dinner ended with my mom's fortune cookie saying "A new person will come into your life and you will be great friends." That obviously made her day.

REVEAL: To the Core

After dinner, we headed to the Core's house. We told them we were bringing a truckload of Merl's tools which had been in our garage (which was true). On the way, Matt called his sister Katharine who was just leaving Merl & Nancy's. He convinced her to go back and wait for us and thankfully, she complied. We then presented Nancy with the same foofed "spring treat" and she immediately said, "I know what this is." She looked at us and said, its a baby. "I hope I didn't foof a baby, I don't think that fits in an envelope!" How does everyone know?!?  She got it opened and boom, tears and hugs. Merl thought the pictures were really neat, Katharine was crying (well, all the girls were) and that was that. The due date is Nancy's birthday so that was a fun added surprise for her.

REVEAL: The Losers (of the bet)

From the Core's we swung by the gas station so I could get every baby-themed treat they had. Can you believe the one missing candy bar was a Baby Ruth?? Dumb. Anyway, I ended up with these sucker thinks in the shape of baby bottles, Sour Patch KIDS, and CRAZY CORE skittles. We then went unannounced to Charlie and Emily's house. At this point it was about 9:30. Their doorbell didn't work so we started pounding on the door. No answer. Matt suggested I check if I still had a key so I started trying all my keys in the deadbolt. If the pounding on the door didn't scare them, this sure would. Jackpot, door opens. Bummer, they are not home. Really guys?!? Where could they possibly be? I started texting Emily about tv shows to try to get a read but she wasn't biting. Finally, Matt called Charlie and found out they were on their way home from the Creighton game. We waited about 10 more minutes until they got home. They had to be suspicious at that point. A) we don't drop by B) Matt hasn't called Charlie "since '82." We handed them the "treats" we bought them and at first, Emily was excited for treats but then they started to catch on. They looked at us and we were both smiling and they knew~ they were losers. We had won! Charlie took credit for being right all along.

From there, we skyped Patrick to tell him. (BTW it was my first skype~ thats fun!) He is very pumped to be an uncle and, "Every outfit that I purchase for Baby Rod will come with a matching outfit for Uncle Patrick." Please let that be true. Name suggestions from Charlie and Patrick so far are, Herman, Rod, Joan, and Pia. Thanks boys. With suggestions like those, you might just get to name this baby yourselves! The "Figgy" name is catching on and baby might be stuck with it longer than the designated fig week. (Oh, by the way, my parents were pretty amused that we ate fig newtons last week).

The day wrapped up with a few more reveals to friends and family and the word is starting to spread. My Mom and brothers are pretty conspicuous with their Facebook posts so I think people are catching on. That is fine by Matt and I because it is sort of exhausting telling everyone - so spread the word! We are sooo excited for baby and so excited to be able to talk about it!
